The Pantaloons

Much Ado About Nothing.

For the first time on the 10th July 2010 Adlington Hall staged its first open air Shakespeare presentation.

An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed a witty performance from The Pantaloons. With the Hall's South Front as a backdrop and the temperature reaching 30 degrees, it was an almost perfect day. This event was the first of what is hoped to become an annual thing . Keeping it on a Saturday as a matinee performance with curtain call at the civilised hour of 2.00pm.

Caitlin Storey ,who originally approached Mrs Camilla Legh, who also performed several characters, was very pleased how it had all gone and even pencilled in next years date with Canterbury tales to be performed.

Click the title above or following link to display the full details - The Pantaloons

One More Turn, Delboy

Brace yourself Rodders’ the crystal chandelier crashes to the floor.

The classic scene from Only fools and horses, not the ideal thought to spring to mind when you are about to clean the Late Victorian gilt bronze chandelier in the Drawing room of Adlington Hall.

Each drop and string of crystals is carefully removed from the 24 candle arms. They are laid out on several tables cushioned with blankets. Over 100 strings and drops make up the chandelier. All the wires attaching the crystals together needed to be straightened and checked.

Using a small amount of very mild detergent, warm water and a soft artist brush the drops and strings are washed. Then in another tray of clean water with a clean brush they are rinsed, patted dry with kitchen towel and laid out to dry completely overnight. Now the job of returning the crystal begins in reverse starting at the top. Finally the last drop is attached and you can stand back, turn on the light switch and admire the glistening chandelier and breath a sigh of relieve until next time.

Click the title above or following link to display the full details - One More Turn, Delboy
